Performance

Engine Options

Ford has made a pair of powerful engine options available to buyers. Entry-level models use a turbocharged 2.3-litre, four-cylinder engine making 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Southlake Ford customers looking for more power can choose trims with a turbocharged 3.0-litre V-6 making 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. All Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L models use a naturally aspirated V-6 producing 293 horsepower.

Towing Capacity

Buyers interested in the 2025 Explorer can equip their new SUV with a Class III towing package that will boost its towing capacity to 2,267 kg. Additionally, the Ford Blind Spot monitoring system helps make towing safer.

Design

Passenger Space

Ford delivered three rows of seats for the 2025 Explorer, offering 1,090, 973, and 818 mm of legroom in the first, second and third rows, respectively. Grand Cherokee L models also have three rows of seats, but lack the available legroom found with the current Explorer. Grand Cherokee versions with two rows of seats also can’t match the Explorer’s legroom dimensions.

Cargo Volume

The 2025 Explorer and Grand Cherokee L have nearly identical cargo volume measurements. Explorer owners will have 2,430 litres, compared to 2,396 litres from the three-row Jeep SUV. Naturally, the two-row Grand Cherokee iteration comes up short compared to the other SUVs.

Technology

Ford Digital Experience

All 2025 Explorer models are equipped with the Ford Digital Experience and its standard 13.2-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is found with both SUVs’ infotainment systems. However, the Explorer also offers enhanced compatibility with Google products and Amazon Alexa.

Available Blue Cruise

In keeping with the idea that the 2025 Explorer is among the most technologically advanced SUVs on the market, buyers can also choose to activate the available Blue Cruise system. Blue Cruise takes some of the burden off drivers by operating semi-autonomously. Jeep does not offer a similar system for the Grand Cherokee or Grand Cherokee L.
