The 2025 Explorer and its Kia Telluride each offer three rows of seating. Explorer passengers will have up to 1,092 mm of legroom and 911 mm and 818 mm in the second and third rows, respectively. Kia Telluride passengers have just a few millimetres more legroom in the first two rows.

Cargo Volume

As three-row SUVs, the 2025 versions of the Explorer and Telluride are among the leaders in their shared class for cargo volume. When the Ford SUV’s two rear rows are folded down, up to 2,486 litres of cargo volume is available. The current Telluride comes up just short of that mark at 2,455 litres.

Every version of the 2025 Ford Explorer outperforms every version of the 2025 Kia Telluride. Most 2025 Explorer models are equipped with a turbocharged 2.3-litre, inline four-cylinder engine making 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Kia employs a naturally aspirated V-6 that makes 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque.

Ford also offers a turbocharged V-6 that produces 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.

Towing Capacity

Both SUVs also rank among the best options for towing in the three-row segment. When properly equipped the 2025 Explorer and 2025 Telluride can pull trailers weighing up to 2,268 kg (5,000 lbs.).

Technology

Advanced Connectivity

While each SUV delivers standard connectivity with the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay suites of applications. However, the 2025 Explorer goes a step further by making that connection wireless as well as making a high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot available.

Hands-Free Driving

The Ford BlueCruise system can be engaged when an Explorer driver engages the adaptive cruise control. BlueCruise can take over the steering of the vehicle and automatically adjust the vehicle’s speed. Kia doesn’t have a comparable system available for the Telluride.

From a form factor standpoint, the 2025 Explorer and Telluride are very evenly matched. Where the Ford SUV really creates space is with performance and technology. All Explorer trims can outperform all Telluride models with its pair of turbocharged engines.
